School Age Child Care (SACC) Program

YMCA of Montclair

The Aftercare or School Age Child Care (SACC) Program provides care for children at their elementary school during the school year while parents are at work. SACC interns or volunteers assist the staff in planning, preparation, and implementation of all activities, and work with children in small groups with age-appropriate activities such as crafts, games, sports, and also assist with homework. SACC volunteers must be 14 years old and work from approximately 3pm-5pm and must commit to a minimum of 20 hours (1 day a week for 3 months, 2 days a week for 2 months, 3 days a week for a month, etc.). You are welcome to do more hours, of course. PLEASE NOTE: This program only runs during the school year (September-June). For the safety of all, SACC volunteers must do the following (please read through this carefully before starting the volunteer application process): -Sign a liability waiver -Sign a photo/video release -Sign a Code of Conduct -Provide three references -Conduct a brief (20 min) in-person child abuse prevention training course -Participate in a virtual (Zoom) interview -Authorize a background check (adults over 18 only) Links to start the credentialing process will be provided when you “click” the VOLUNTEER and LEARN MORE buttons. SACC volunteers must be 14 years old. As soon as this process is complete, please reach out to Jen Grisafi at jgrisafi@montclairymca.org. YOU MAY NOT START YOUR VOLUNTEER WORK UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN CLEARED. The YMCA of Montclair has zero-tolerance for abuse, mistreatment, or sexual activity among members, volunteers, employees, and program participants within the organization. In addition, our organization will not tolerate any behavior that is classified under the definition of bullying, and to the extent that such actions are harmful to the program, participants and the organization will take the necessary steps to eliminate such behavior.

All Volunteers must: Complete waivers and training prior to starting their volunteer work. Volunteers over the age of 18 must complete a criminal background check. Adhere to policies related to boundaries with members, volunteers, staff, and participants. Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants. Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations and follow mandated abuse reporting procedures.
