The Early Learning Center (ELC) at our Geyer Family Branch provides care for children ages 3 months to 4 years, 7:30 am-6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. ELC interns or volunteers will have the opportunity to assist the staff in all classroom activities and development of curriculum, schedules, and lesson plans (when appropriate). The ELC utilizes The Creative Curriculum®, a developmentally appropriate, comprehensive curriculum that promotes positive outcomes for children. You are also welcome to sign up as a volunteer to just come in and provide support during nap and snack time (rocking the babies to sleep, feeding) and playground/playtime support. ELC volunteers must commit to a minimum of 20 hours (1 day a week for 3 months, 2 days a week for 2 months, 3 days a week for a month, etc.). You are welcome to do more hours, of course. For the safety of all, ELC volunteers must do the following (please read through this carefully before starting the volunteer application process): -Sign a liability waiver -Sign a photo/video release -Sign a Code of Conduct -Provide three references -In-person child abuse prevention training (20 minutes) -Participate in a virtual (Zoom) interview -Authorize a background check (adults over 18 only) Links to start the credentialing process will be provided when you “click” the VOLUNTEER and LEARN MORE buttons. ELC volunteers must be 14 years old. As soon as this process is complete, please reach out to Jen Grisafi at jgrisafi@montclairymca.org. YOU MAY NOT START YOUR VOLUNTEER WORK UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN CLEARED. The YMCA of Montclair has zero-tolerance for abuse, mistreatment, or sexual activity among members, volunteers, employees, and program participants within the organization. In addition, our organization will not tolerate any behavior that is classified under the definition of bullying, and to the extent that such actions are harmful to the program, participants and the organization will take the necessary steps to eliminate such behavior.

All Volunteers must: Complete waivers and training prior to starting their volunteer work. Volunteers over the age of 18 must complete a criminal background check. Adhere to policies related to boundaries with members, volunteers, staff, and participants. Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants. Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations and follow mandated abuse reporting procedures.
All ELC volunteers must let their lead teacher or Justine Perillo (jperillo@montclairymca.org) know if they are unable to attend their shift. ELC volunteers must notify volunteer manager Jen Grisafi (jgrisafi@montclairymca.org) when they have completed their volunteer service and submit their signed hours sheet.
