Homework Tutoring Program

YMCA of Montclair

Volunteer with the YMCA of Montclair's Homework Tutoring Program, Dedicated homework tutors assist Y members in grades 6-10 to succeed academically while inspiring them to reach their full potential. Tutors will provide additional academic support in the subjects of math, science, English, Spanish and history. Tutors must be 16+ (at least a Jr in HS), creative, patient and adaptable. Tutoring takes place at our Park Street location on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 4:30pm-6pm For the safety of all, volunteers must do the following (please read through this carefully before starting the volunteer application process): -Sign a liability waiver -Sign a photo/video release -Sign a Code of Conduct -Provide three references -Conduct a brief (20 min) in-person child abuse prevention training course -Participate in a virtual (Zoom) interview -Authorize a background check (adults over 18 only) Links to start the credentialing process will be provided when you “click” the VOLUNTEER and LEARN MORE buttons. As soon as this process is complete, please reach out to Jen Grisafi at jgrisafi@montclairymca.org. YOU MAY NOT START YOUR VOLUNTEER WORK UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN CLEARED. The YMCA of Montclair has zero-tolerance for abuse, mistreatment, or sexual activity among members, volunteers, employees, and program participants within the organization. All Volunteers must: Complete waivers and training prior to starting their volunteer work. Volunteers over the age of 18 must complete a criminal background check. Adhere to policies related to boundaries with members, volunteers, staff, and participants. Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants. Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations and follow mandated abuse reporting procedures.
